The 2024 Festival T-shirt!

Artist Statement

As a new resident of the Old West End since November 2023, I am submitting this T-shirt proposal as a way to get into the OWE spirit. My design of the 2024 Old West End Festival stained glass window is rooted in honoring the neighborhood's late Victorian detail and its welcoming and playful community.

I chose to depict the iconic yard flamingo for the neighborhood's unique charm, while incorporating historical exterior colors to pay homage to its heritage. The central pane employs Haint Blue, traditionally used in Southern porch ceilings to ward off evil spirits, highlighting the positive influence of porch culture in our community.

Inspiration for the organic shapes surrounding the flamingo stems from the landscaping and spring wildflowers observed during daily sidewalk strolls with friends. This design element celebrates the beauty of nature in Northwest Ohio and underscores the collaborative spirit of community gardening efforts to produce good.

Ultimately, my goal is to create a piece that resonates with both residents and visitors alike, fostering a sense of connection and pride in this neck of the Woods.
